Re:fresh Books

History

We were formed in 2008 by Churches Together in Surbiton and Tolworth under the guidance and help of Adam Stacey from Baptists Together in Surbiton. Adam had spent just over half a season playing for the Kings Centre in Chessington, but felt the churches in Surbiton should setup and run their own club for the local community.

The local churches in Surbiton gave their blessing upon setting up the team and local kickarounds were organised in April 2008. 10 people turned up on the first night, but by the end of May there was enough interest for us to register as an official Surrey FA team and join the SACFL league for the 2008/09 season. Financial support was sought and the local churches donated and
re:fresh became the clubs sponsor.

We organised a variety of friendly matches over the summer as well as playing in a charity tournament for Ambassadors in Sport. Here we got to play 60 minutes at the David Beckham Academy against a team with the ex England and Manchester United midfielder Lee Sharpe; we held ourselves well and only lost by a couple of goals.

Our first season had a difficult start! We were continuing to pick up new players weekly, so we spent most of the time on the pitch learning each others names. We suffered many defeats in the run up to Christmas 2008. However in the New Year we had an organised and settled team and began to put in some good performances. We picked up enough points to lift ourselves from rock bottom to 7th by the end of the season.

Over the summer of 2009 some of our team moved away to different areas of the country, but we have gained some now players. We had a great pre season and start the season confident of putting some good results together and pushing for a top 5 finish.
